2024 Olympian and current European Champion Danielle Hill will be joining 2024 European Championships finalists Ellie McCartney, Lottie Cullen and Nathan Wiffen as they head into December’s (10th-15th) World Aquatics Championships (25m) in Budapest, Hungary, as part of a 13-strong Irish team. With both Olympic Champion and bronze medallists Daniel Wiffen and Mona McSharry opting not to compete in the Hungarian capital on this occasion, this is an amazing opportunity for our Ulster athletes to shine on the world stage.
Jon Rudd, Swim Ireland’s National Performance Director, commented, “The period following an Olympic Games is highly individualised for athletes. Some are eager to compete again, while others need extra time to recover and recharge after a demanding summer—especially one that marked Ireland’s best-ever performance in Olympic waters. This dynamic will be reflected globally, with certain events in Budapest featuring familiar faces and others providing opportunities for new talent to shine. Irish swimming is in a fantastic place right now, full of confidence, and this is an exciting group of athletes to bring to a championship like this as we look ahead to the 50m-pool event in Singapore next summer.”

Further to the selection of the four Ulster swimmers heading to represent Ireland, we will also have another Ulster athlete attending the Championships. Zach Moyo (Swim Belfast) has been selected to represent Zambia at the World Aquatics Swimming Championships (25m), where he will race in the 50m and 100m Breaststroke. Moyo, who represented Zambia at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, and the 2023 World Championships in Fukuoka, will lean on his international experience as he races against the fastest in the world.
