Day 2 Report – Racing Heats Up in Dublin

 

The 2025 Irish Summer National Youth and Senior Championships resumed in the National Aquatic Centre for the second day of racing with 32 national titles up for grabs.

The Female 1500m Freestyle event took place this afternoon with medals up for grabs across all age categories. Lucie O’Keeffe of Aer Lingus claimed victory in the 15yrs age group with a time of 18:10.4. In the 16yrs, Kilkenny’s Abby Cunningham powered through to take gold in 18:05.93. Eva Hand of Bangor topped the 17yrs, dipping under the 18-minute mark with a strong 17:55.39. The standout swim of the day came from Rebekah Friel of Dundalk in the 18+ category, who dominated her race and posted the fastest overall time of 17:39.46, securing gold.

The Open 200m Backstroke got night two of finals underway with the 15yrs on the blocks first. Baltazar Allende (Templeogue) secured gold with 2:12.36. The 16yrs final was dominated by Phelim Hanley of Blackrock, who clocked an impressive 2:07.72 to take the win. Rudi Lacy of ESB delivered 2:11.29 to win the 17 yrs gold. In the 18 yrs category, Artem Chobot of Titans set the standard with 2:06.28. Neddie Irwin of National Centre Limerick won the 19yrs to win gold in 2:03.11.

Izabella Lehany McGoldrick of Longford claimed victory in the 15yrs Female 50m Freestyle with a time of 27.60. In the 16yrs category, Hannah Coady from St. Fiacc’s took gold in an impressive 26.98. Recent European Junior, Ava Jones (Portmarnock) led the 17yrs race, finishing first in 26.78. While National Centre Dublin’s Rosalie Phelan emerged as the clear winner, in the 18yrs and over race, clocking 25.79.

In the Open 50m Freestyle, Keir Donaghy (Ballymena) won the 15yrs race with a time of 24.73. Miks O’Flaherty from Breifne delivered 23.86 to claim top spot in the 16yrs category. Reuben Alty (Larne) secured the 17yrs title with 23.71. In the 18yrs, Fionn Byrne from NAC touched first in 23.82. In the 19yrs & over event, Thomas Leggett of Larne ripped through the water to win gold in a time of 23.27.

Eimear O’Neill of Dungannon claimed top spot in the 15yrs Female 100m Butterfly, finishing in 1:08.69. In the 16yrs category, Lucy O’Brien of the National Centre Limerick dominated clocked an impressive 1:02.53. Abby Yelverton (Limerick) went 1:05.36 to win the 17yrs gold. Fresh off the back of her two bronze medals in Slovakia, Grace Davison (Ards) took gold in the 18yrs & Over race with a strong time of 1:01.02.

In the Open 100m Butterfly, Allende Baltazar of Templeogue secured first place in the 15yrs race with 58.44. Thomas Bugler (Sundays Well) went 57.10 to win the national 16yrs gold, while Ryan Griffin of Cookstown led the 17yrs field in 57.25. Sean Donnellan of Glenalbyn took home the 18yrs title with a time of 57.48. In the 19yrs & Over category, Dylan Registe from Lisburn claimed victory in a fast 55.10.

In the final event of the night, Izabella Lehany McGoldrick of Longford claimed top spot on the podium in the 15yrs Female 200m Individual Medley with a winning time of 2:30.11. Lexi Dunne from Dolphin took gold in the 16yrs category, finishing in 2:23.56. Niamh Connery of Shark led the 17yrs race with a time of 2:22.53, and Jena Macdougald from UCD topped the 18yrs & over podium, clocking 2:25.39.
