Founded in 1959, the City of Derry Swimming Club has a proud legacy of over 65 years in developing swimmers of all levels – from beginners to international competitors. Based at the City Baths in Derry’s William Street, the club also has access to two additional training centres at Foyle Arena and Templemore Sports Complex, allowing us to offer a comprehensive, multi-venue programme. The club has been a cornerstone of the swimming community in the North West, producing provincial and national champions, as well as Olympians and Commonwealth Games athletes.
City of Derry SC provides a comprehensive development pathway through its Swim Teaching Academy, Development, Junior, Senior, and International squads. Our programmes align with Swim Ireland’s Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, focusing on technical excellence, holistic athlete development, and a positive, inclusive training environment.
The club is built on a strong volunteer ethos, and powered by committed coaches, teachers, parents, and committee members all playing a vital role in its ongoing success. City of Derry has a history of innovation and excellence – hosting internationally renowned swim clinics, runner up in the prestigious Irish Times Club of the Year awards (2014), and being named a finalist in Swim Ireland’s Club of the Year (2023).
As well as performance, City of Derry SC values the character-building aspects of swimming: resilience, teamwork, and lifelong friendships. We are proud to foster a warm, welcoming community where every swimmer is encouraged to reach their full potential.
